We are inspired to compete in MakeX because we’re aware of the environmental hazards happening all over the world. Our project is full of eco-friendly stuff. So we came up with the idea that we can combine a house with eco-friendly structures. We named its title “Eco-Friendly house”! The main reason we participated in the MakeX competition is because of the ozone problem. The ozone in the atmosphere blocks the UV rays from the sun. However, the ozone in the troposphere causes significant damage in our body. It mostly hurts our respiratory system. The ozone hole in the Earth lets the ozone in the troposphere in, damaging us. However, we found out one problem that causes the ozone layer to be damaged. Refrigerant! Refrigerants are used in air conditioning systems. After using the system, it comes out from the outdoor unit and causes ozone layer destruction. There are other reasons for the damage of the ozone layer, but we thought refrigerant is a more significant factor. We thought this was really serious and started making a house which is eco-friendly. Our project took 2 and a half months. We think it was an excellent experience.

Let us explain our project. Our project has 3 important functions. First, the left side of the roof opens in the morning which is good for getting natural sunlight and saving energy. There is a big mirror inside to reflect the sunlight. It works because the servo motor changes its angle so that the roof moves along. It closes at night because it can be cold during the night. The light sensor detects the night and turns on the LED on the Halocode. However, in the morning, it turns off and lets us save energy. Additionally, we can have more ventilation and give the plants sunlight they need. Second, we can collect the rainwater in the cup on top of the right roof. We made the water flow faster by cutting a hole in the back of the cup. We also made a filter with a sponge which makes the water clean and safe. The water pump makes the water flow faster. Finally, the water comes down inside the house and another water pump carries the water giving the plants water equally. It is important because it can save the use of the water. Lastly, when the temperature goes over 27 degrees, which is not comfortable for human activities, the fan turns on to automatically cool the room. Also, it has an automatic turning-off feature if the temperature falls below 27 degrees.
