This anthem was adopted in 1984. When Australia gained independence, the anthem was still used as "God Save the King" until 1984. Since Australia is one of the Commonwealth realm, "God Save The King" was used as a royal anthem. The lyrics got a very small change in 2021 to recognise the legacy of Indigenous Australians.
