Currently, we have heard a lot about global warming effects from all over the world. Many studies show that the major cause comes from greenhouse gas emissions and CO2 is one of the major greenhouse gas sources. And this is the reason why many countries release measures to limit CO2 emission There are many ways that we can help to limit CO2 emissions, such as using EV cars, using renewable energy, recycling, etc. Many studies talk about waste sorting and recycling could reduce CO2 emissions. And that should be a simple way that everyone can help and save the world. To do the recycling, the waste sorting process is needed and that can start from home. A study said that using recycle scraps to make aluminum cans uses 95% less energy than making cans from raw material, this is only an example. However, waste sorting seems to be challenged in many developing countries. A study from the Katadata Insight Center (KIC) also shows that 50.8% of households have not sorted their waste, with 79% of them thinking that waste sorting is a difficult thing to do. The ultimate of this project is to build automatic waste sorting for households by just only tell the bin what the waste is. However, our 1st version of this project is to sort by informing the type of waste by naming the color. The color of this project refers to the official waste type announced by the Thai government. This will help the household create more discipline and understand how they should sort the waste when need to do it in the public. By using this SMART BIN version 2 for some time, we expect that one will understand waste type automatically in the future and become their discipline to do waste sorting in everywhere. And that will help reduce CO2 emissions and save our world at the end.

操作说明:

The SMART BIN Version #2 uses voice commands for sorting wastes. And use PIR sensors with ultrasonic sensors to confirm readiness to start the operation. 1. Power on the CyberPi 2. The SMART BIN will always say greeting for the 1st time. Then the system will do the resetting the bucket to confirm the operation. Once the “8x16 blue LED matrix” become 2 oval (looks like eyes), then the system is ready to start. 3. Use your hand close to the smart bin bucket. Once it is close enough, the system will give a sound to let you know that the system is ready to start. Otherwise, it will ask you to come closer to the start. 4. After hearing the sound, the SMART BIN will ask you the type of your waste and give you information about the color of each waste type; Blue: General waste Yellow: Recycle waste Green: Wet waste Red: Hazardous waste 5. You will need to tell SMART BIN the color of the waste type after the sound. In case the system is not recognized it, the sound will repeat, and you can say it again until the system recognizes the color. 6. Once the system recognizes, the display will change the status, the speaker will generate a sound to let you know that it starts, and the SMART BIN moves the bin type using the color line detection during the move. 7. Once it reaches the bin, the bucket will clear the waste 2 times to ensure that the waste is empty in the bucket. 8. Then it will move back to the home position, and you will hear the sound once it reaches the home position. 9. Once all processes are complete, the SMART BIN will say “Thank you for saving the world”. And “8x16 blue LED matrix” will change to 2 oval (looks like eyes), this means the system will be ready for the next waste sorting process.
