How I did this: I clicked the Create button, made a new cloud variable, then downloaded the project to my computer. Then, I opened the project in the Scratch Offline Editor, then I used the "set variable to" block to set the cloud variable to "abc". Then, I uploaded that file to the Scratch website and it worked!
